For the growth and development of the community, DSCW has incessantly worked upon to bring the underprivileged section of the society at par by helping them to mingle with the mainstream. To fructify DSCW efforts and to promote the cause of women empowerment initiated by DSCW, the University Grants Commission sanctioned a grant of rupees 1 crore 80 lakhs for the establishment of the Community College at DSCW campus to run skilled diploma courses. At present more than 300 students are getting 100% free education under the Community College scheme.
The Community college is a unique experiment to eradicate poverty through education and to use education as a tool to empower the underprivileged section of the society by providing sustainable employment. Every student who acquires an admission in community college course will go back to his family as an educated, economically independent and socially concerned individual. The college is running five courses under the community scheme of UGC namely, Beauty & Wellness, Fashion Designing, Cutting, Tailoring and Embroidery, Cooking and Housekeeping Management and Art and Craft Management, each with 50 seats.
